Small oil paintings

Many smaller pieces are made in oil, but on a variety of supports – including fine and coarse canvas, canvas board, hardboard, plywood, wood and occasionally glass or plastic sheet.

The nature of the surface of the support is a large influence on the final stylistic presentation of the piece. Marks are made using a range of brushes, plus rags, card, sticks and fingers etc. The way the paint is applied is the initial determining factor in the forming of the image.
Because these pieces are painted in oil, their development is slower and more considered than the more spontainious works on paper.
