Large scale oil paintings

Most of the larger works are painted on canvas, although mounted ply or hardboard is occasionally used to afford a different surface texture.

These works start life as stained areas which are rotated and developed over a period of days and the image emerges as a result of the intial staining and re-collections of some of the smaller experimental works - they do not evolve according to a pre-ordained plan.

Working in a larger scale is important for the artist - the more demanding physical activities of paint exploration of the human form close to the real life human scale, profoundly influences how the finished work is percieved. The titles of the works try to reflect the ambiguous nature of their development and their state.
